I am a newbie to the world of truck campers, I picked up a 1992 LiteCraft and slowly familiarizing myself with all of the systems onboard.

The camper did not come with a battery and I am looking to install one. My last bumper pull camper had the battery installed on the tongue in a waterproof case.

I'm assuming that most people install them inside, under a dinette seat or other compartment?
I ask because I have been told you always want to install it outside for safety precautions.

I have a couple spots inside that would work but thought I'd ask.

Thanks!

Some trucks have space, even a tray already built in to mount a second battery under the hood. This gives more camper space and would allow it to stay charged all the time even when the camper isn't on the truck?

We have wet cell 6 volts in our camper. Wet cell is doable inside with external ventilation. In our case this was done using marine engine bay ventilation plastic flanges and hose. One flange centered on the battery box lid, the other at a ~2.5" hole in the lower side of the camper. There is a grill over the hole on the outside. You can probably find all of the pieces to do this at any marine store or westmarine.com.
