Bed Depths

I've got a 2018 Hawk in a 2012 Tundra DC. It's our second FWC in this truck. Seems like the bed on the tundras are deeper than most at around 23" I think. Anybody know what other trucks this camper will fit in without the camper sticking way up high and having a 3-4" gap? Can I remove the lower wood slats FWC uses to lift the Hawk up from the factory?

I know the F150's & Silverado's are a couple inches shallower than the tundras. Anybody have a new Titan HD or Ram 2500 willing to measure depth for me?

I'm considering an upgrade to the Ram or Titan.

Thanks for your help.

Those slats do more than just raise the camper. They keep most of the bottom side of the camper off the truck bed, to prevent water damage to the bottom of the camper. I wouldn't remove them. You can always add a wind diverter over the truck cab.

Good info, thanks. Also, wondering if the F250 or F350 have the deeper bed walls. Those trucks are also a worthy contender, albeit a tad pricey.

Interesting. I've got a 2017 Hawk on a 2017 F150. The bed on my truck is only 23 inches, and the Hawk is about 25 inches. Does FWC make different height Hawks?

Yes. Depending of the truck you're putting it on. My Hawk won't fit a 2019 F150 without a significant gap. I measured them about 1-1.5" shorter bed height. Currently in sitting at 23" on tundra with 24" on the camper, which is ideal. My last Hawk I sold to a guy with a 2016 Silverado and it was silly high. He almost didn't buy it but said he'd figure something out like remove the wood slats on the bottom. Apparently it's not a good idea to do that as longhorn indicates above.

Where you at Stan?

I have a 15 ram and just bought a '16 Hawk from a Tundra owner. Sadly there is a significant gap between the bed rails and the camper. The Ram bed depth is about 19-20 (and even shorter in the front compared to the rear) inches while the Tundra is 22-23ish.

My '99 Hawk needed about a 1 inch rise to clear the bed on the Ram and a 3 inch rise to clear the bed on my old 2004 F150. Seems like Tundras and F150s share deep bed sides while the 3/4-1 tons still have short ones.

2018 Ram 2500 w/ 2018 Hawk:

Bottom of bed (from the bottom of the grooves, not the lands) to the top of the bed rail (with factory poly rail cap) is just under 21".

The reveal between the bed cap and the bottom of the camper overhang is just a little more than 1.5".

I have a 3/4" bed mat underneath the camper.

Hi, I'm still looking to see if anybody here owns a new Titan HD so i can get the bed depth. I'm not sure i want to visit the dealership for fears of buying a new pickup.

Thanks! Just like a 2018 Ram 2500 the Titan HD bed depth is 20.8"

You just may have saved my $45k!

I appreciate your help - you're a king of internet searches.
