I know there was a recent thread about camper steps, but would like for people who camp with their dogs to weigh in on the best affordable steps for dogs to enter and exit the FWC by themselves. I have a 30lb and 50lb dog and want to save their joints and my back. Thanks!

Camping World - Dog ramp. Our lab goes right up into our F-250 and same into our FWC. Has green turf so no slipping. Best purchase we have made. jd

Thank you, Longhorn, and hello from Austin, TX.

I'm guessing you have the 72" long ramp, not the shorter one. Is that right?

Being cheap...plywood and stapled on rug...the ole girl loved it... was a pain to store but hey ...she's been a true blue to me.

We went with Tork Lift Glowstep with the Safe Step fillers, not cheap but worth every cent. Do to past injuries and now balance issues I needed secure steps and our dog can no longer jump up into the camper so it is a win/win. Because Belle cannot see thru the steps with the Safestep panels in place she goes up/down at will.
Cheers!

Me too! In fact when "Bob" my Border Collie (going on 10) just started having a problem jumping up in to my Grandby a couple of weeks ago' when I had to use all my levelers and it was a little higher than usual, I just pulled it out of the shed when I got home and put it up and showed him what it as for, and after a sniff or two and a little tug-up he went with what I would call a bemused look on his face. I just used it again for four days up at Butte Creek and for him it was a one way thing-He insisted on jumping out in the morning on his own, and jumping into the front seat of my F-150 when acting as co-driver! I first got it when my Aust. Shep lost a leg to cancer and was having problem getting in and out! I should note that it also works well as a bridge when I ran a wheel barrow full of new roof tiles over a step to get it to the roof!

Charlie and Hailey do fine when we have the tow hitch cargo rack installed. It steps up half the distance. If we level the truck to camp and the rack is too tall we place the folding ladder or the excess leveling blocks as a step to the cargo rack.

Not the best but you can get the idea what the TorkLift glowsteps look like.

Thanks for the photo. They look good.... the cost is up there too. First photo of an AC as well! The lap of luxury !

We use the little giant steps. They work great. First thing out at camp and last thing in. I use them when I close up to tuck in the vinyl an make sure its folded nicely. They lay perfect on the floor while traveling. Bought the three step version. My dog took to them pretty quickly. Probably the best addition to our set up after we purchased our camper. If my memory serves me correctly it was b/w the little giant steps https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005V5MF/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and this other brand https://www.amazon.com/Xtend-Climb-WT3-Professional-Handrail/dp/B000EUCOUK/ref=sr_1_12?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1474860407&sr=1-12&keywords=xtend+%26+climb+ladder. Little giant was a bit more expensive but I choose them for the rubber-ish non-slip surface on the steps rather than the cleated metal steps on the other brand. Thought they would be easier on bare feet and paws, turns out I was right. Because we can move them around we even have used them for a side table for drinks and we flip up the handle to hold towels for showers outside etc. an added bonus in the plastic tray at the top of the handle if you are using it for other stuff, its great to hold screws, screwdriver, whatever if you're doing work around the house. I always keep the steps with the camper but find myself grabbing them when the need arises rather than grabbing my step ladder. They're also great for my dad and grandpa who prefer them over a step ladder. I'll try to add a pic. but I've never figured that part out.

I just returned from my first solo trip with my dog in the Hawk. He is able to climb /jump in camper with no steps. However, I have Glowsteps... the 4 step version which we use and love. He will not climb the steps and tries to enter from the side. Getting out he just jumps out. My question is.... Torklift sells dog step savers. It's a back plate made from plastic material that velcro on. Has anybody tried them? I would buy if they work but not really sure of the theory. Supposedly the dogs do not like seeing through the back step?

Dogs and humans(I am referring to myself) need 60 repetitions to pick up a new habit. Give him some guidance and patience and I bet he will get the hang of it

Dogs have a problem with depth perception. Tape some cardboard behind the steps and with patience she should learn to be confident walking up the stairs. after a period of time you should be able to remove the cardboard.

Pet Step
Folds in half, fits perfectly in my Hawk and is Rottie approved.
Use a little Velveta to train the dog and chocolate for the wife.

I use the Torklift steps with the Safety Steps for dogs, works great for the dog and is a real safety feature my wife and I. My best Hawk mod.
