Today there's a "Black Moon"!

It means that the "new moon" today is the second new moon in the calendar month. It's like a "blue moon", which is the second full moon in a calendar month.
So, no, not that big a deal.

Except: If a black moon occurred on October 31 then I might be worried. ...what with the unleashing of demons and all...
I wonder what year the next time that will occur...?

"Black Moon"! I learned something today. Thank you Mark. :)
As a matter of fact, this one is the first I've heard of it, too.
Not sure why they're less talked about than a "blue moon" -- they must occur with equal frequency. The last one was 2½ years ago, and the next one is in 3 years, so they're not that rare...

Maybe one reason we haven't heard of the "black" moon, it doesn't sound as "romantic".
The Marcels had a 1961 hit Blue Moon. Don't think it would have gotten anywhere if it was Black Moon, you saw me standing there alone.....
Who knows maybe someone will release a new one.

I think the Black Moon doesn't have the fame of the Blue Moon simply because a full moon is a much bigger deal to most people than a new moon.
Mostly just serious star-gazers -- and star-photographers -- delight in the deeper dark of the new moon.
