California State Parks closing

That list of parks is really sad. And these are "permanent" not "temporary" closures?

I wonder how the small businesses that are around these parks feel about the closures? (I am also guessing the same business owners vote for "lower" taxes.)

I was thinking about a trip out to CA in 2012, but I see a few places that I would want to go on that list, so maybe I will wait. I can go when the parks are re-opened as WallMart Woods SP and Viagra Trees SP. :(

OH, most parks are still open and I wouldn't let the few that are closed stop a trip out here, there are still so many great places to see that you couldn't do it all in one trip. I've lived here all my life and haven't seen 25% of them. Though I have to add that I've seen some of the very best many times.

Hey everyone,

Just a heads up...this is not an immediate closure....most of these parks will be open all summer, winter, and even next spring...closure is slated for the 2012/2013 state fiscal year, which begins on July 1, 2012. The governor or whatever you call him has not even signed this into law....with the way things in CA change I wouldn't hold your breath....go out and enjoy these places and support your parks!

Washington state just instituted a $30 yearly State Parks pass with a $10 daily fee. Not bad and we should have done it years ago. Washington state tried closing some state parks a few years ago and people wailed and promised to clean and monitor, whatever it took to keep them open. We all don't have megamansions on the water like Microsofty billionaires.

I hadn't caught that before. No real biggie in my mind though. I wonder if they'll keep the $5 license fee (that is opt out if you are paying attention but I always keep in on to support the cause) as well. I don't mind supporting both but I'm sure some people would be irked to still be paying that $5 fee and then show up to the parks and have to pony up more.
