I need a new one. Got any recommendations? I remember Overland Journal doing a spread about them recently, but my copies are inaccessible for a few weeks. Anyone remember what they said?

I don't know what Overland Journal wrote, but the following is my experience:

For "campground" style chairs Coleman makes or made an all aluminum framed folding chair I'm kind of fond of. I say all aluminum because it hasn't any plastic slide joints that allow it to collapse. My experience is the plastic joints tend to break prematurely, especially in the cold. The fabric seat material is sturdy. The down side is the Coleman folds flat as opposed to collapsing into itself, in other words does not store as easily.

For "trekking" style chairs Thermarest sells a kit that makes their sleeping pads convert to a legless camp chair. I used to have a Crazy Creek chair that was basically a 1/2 or 3/4 length hard foam sleeping pad with straps and stays to convert it to a chair. It worked well. The reason I don't use it anymore is I wasn't paying attention and got older and now prefer a full length sleeping pad.

After that I have a collection of Stuff Mart "On Sale" specials. For what I gave for them if they last more than a few seasons, (See the plastic comment above) I think I'm money ahead.

Whatever your choice, happy camping...

Spendy, but damned comfy.

This isn't fancy, but it is comfortable. Back support, arm rests and beer holders
Copy Paste.

I have a GCI Outdoor Xpress Lounger Chair.I bought mine on line but you can get it at REI.They are compact but not real light.I've had mine for 2 years and am very happy with it.

I read about the PICO chair on Expedition Portal and purchased two. Expensive, but price has come down. Comfortable and fold very compact. Good thread about camp chairs here:

We have a regular size and a King size model of these exact chairs. There are now cheaper knock-offs out there if the price is a concern. Probably the biggest drawback for us is the size and weight. They take up a hefty amount of floorspace in the Hawk, for sure.

happy trails

Yes -- these Lafuma loungers are quite huge (and expensive)...really a different class than a camp chair...though they're the ultimate portable device if you want to take a nap...or look up at the sky (stars and meteors at night, clouds during the day) without lying on the ground.

I also have a Lafuma camp chair with just the back that reclines -- also nice without being too much.

For a low budget choice try the Northwest Terratories Big Boy chair from K-Mart. I've used one for 6 years and just bought a second a few weeks ago. They are sturdy, roomy and they cost about $20.

I saw a chair at Harbor Fright very similar to the Pico for under $30. A friend of mine here in Tucson has a couple of them. He weighs .... shall we say he has generous proportions and he claims they're comfy and sturdy.

These are very nice camp chairs. They have self service beer (light and/or dark).

This is my favorite camp chair so far.

But if you really need something more mobile a folding chair is probably the best choice. Lafuma knockoffs are readily available at reasonable cost.

Do you have a P/N ? I looked, but didn't find much online.

Desert,
I too notice that they weren't listed but I was at the store yesterday and they were there.
