Camper anchors to bed

I've seen two ways truck campers are anchored down...
External turn buckles to - what? What is it attached to?
And internally attached inside the bed.

Is one of these preferable?
And can I change it or do they just come set up one way?

Thx in advance.

External tie downs are most secure when connected to a frame mount. Tork Lift makes a great example. For a large hard side camper, external to a frame mount is the only way I would feel safe. Also, there are mounts that attach to the front end of the bed and down on the bumper, and some that go into the stake pockets. I'm not a fan of these mounts.

Pop up campers often have elevator eye bolts through the floor of the bed, using turnbuckles to tie the campers in. Sometimes turnbuckles strip or camper eyes tear through the wood, but I suspect they've been in some rough country. Usually an easy fix.

Does anyone have experience with "Happy Jacks", spring loaded turn buckles for FWC or ATC campers?

Or, is it best to just stay with the heavy duty turn buckles more universally used by everyone here?

See the HJs on Craigslist from time to time, and usually see them with the mounts Wandering Sagebrush mentioned above.
