:ninja: Any one who did not come on out to the camping, and exploring of the area missed agreat time. I got there on Friday, coming straight from Edwards A.F.B, and met up with Craig and Reilly!
Dick ,Jim, and Terry, with the Jeep, and the "Zuki", showed up from one of the canyons exploring, and we shared a couple of assorted Beers and ales that Craig had brought. We sat and told lies, and stories for a bit, than I had to go to my home, as I did not bring the camper, only my TJ Jeep. UNfortunately, I had to be home to feed my horses, and dogs, so was not able to return that nite. Saturday brought some more family stuff, so missed the rest of the time out there. This is some of what kind of stuff is out there to be discovered, and some of the history and even the mineral you can find....

The rock, and sandstone formations are very beautiful in the morning sun, or at sunset. Then they glow with reddish, and umber colors, along with the pink from the suns rays...

Randsburg is an old town in "Arrested Decay", much like Bodie,
, but is still occupied, and is a living museum to the mining of the area..

NEXT TIME... YA'LL NEED TO COME OUT!!

The ghost town of Randsburg is about 25 miles south of Ridgecrest California, right along the 395 highway. It lies near the El Paso Mtns, and along the Garlock quake fault line. The gold mine, "Yellow Aster", has been going and producing for over 100 years!
As I said, it is in a condition of "Arrested Decay in most of the outskirts, but the main street has two saloons, a restaurant, museum, and a real Malt Shop, where you can get a REAL Chocolate Phosphate, or a sweet Cherry Phosphate drink! At the top of the main street, is one of the old stamping mills that processed the ore, and then it went to smelter from there. The "Wander The West" camp out was on a bluff across the fault, and close to the entrance to Goler Gulch, and a famous off road obstacle called the "Squeeze". Approx 6 miles away is the subcline for the Red Rock Cyn State park, where you can see over 3 million years of the sediment from the ancient sea bed thrust up over 300 feet, forming the Last Chance Canyon, and Nightmare Gulch areas. In addition to Gold, silver, Opals, and even Seismotite, a talc stone that was used in everything from "Dutch Cleanser, to making steel. There is a state park campground at Ricardo, where camping is a very quiet place, and since it has almost no light pollution, star gazing is a big event sometimes.

Thanks Steve for the info. The pictures are great, as is the words to where this alluring area is.
Thanks Again
Russ.

ps I need to remember not to use the public facilities there
