Heading through Carrizo on the way home. Any suggested good spots to camp?
Thank you for the current conditions Jack. We will be heading home through there in one week. Perhaps the coming week of predicted sunshine will boost the bloom a bit. Either way, just nice to be on the road, out of the rain and not at workJack said:Left the Carrizo this morning. Each year there are more people, and the Selby sites were full, but only 3 of us in the open spaces that can accommodate 6 or so more. Flowers not in full bloom - maybe one to two weeks, but still very enjoyable.
We have camped several times on roads leading off to the west of Soda Lake Road. There are some nice spots back in. The road to Caliente ridge has serious mud and sliding off (nd down) is a serious risk. However, before the mud is a turn around, maybe 1/4 to 1/2 mile up the road that has a great view both to the east and the west.
There is a T-Mobile tower at the south end of the plain, across 33 that provided a useful signal with line of sight. I did not pick up a Verizon signal.
