I took the pups bird hunting this morning, their first this fall for anything other than grouse. We had several covey of Hungarian Partridge, aka Huns, and properly known as Gray Partridge (Perdix perdix). In his excitement, Fritz busted the first covey, then we had two wild flushes, so no chances to even shoot and miss.

On the way out, I stopped at the edge of the Eagle Creek Canyon to see the damage caused by the Town Gulch fire earlier this year. A lot of hard to hunt but great habitat was blackened, and there were some genuinely fortunate landowners along the creek.

Here you can see the dyed and unburned stripe left by a fire suppression drop. That and the road saved a lot of rangeland.

Best of all (not!), Ketzel once again rolled in a cow pie. Gotta love that dog.

We have Huns around here also. But I can't see them. Because I'm color blind in the red/green spectrum. To me they look like the average chukar. It's only when my hunting buddy tells me that my bagged bird is a Hun do I know.

Every once in awhile I do that myself to disguise my scent out in the wild. Julie does not like to take me home when I do.

I do like to take Julie home when she rolls in sage and coyote mint.
