This stool failed on me on second use and it was not a pretty sight.

It looks like you have solved the stool problem. But for releasing camper latches, I simply screwed a hook into the end of a 4 foot dowel and can stay on the ground as I walk around unlatching the roof. Of course, I do need the stool to relatch them.

I also use this stool to relatch the roof and to climb up into the bed. I added some rubber stair treads for safety but it folds flat and is easily stowed.

I use this: https://www.wernerco.com/us/products/ladders/step-ladders/SSA00Series/SSA03

I carry it folded flat on the floor just inside the back door. It is not only handy for stepping into the camper but is also used for latching down the top or any other use I might have around camp.

I also use a Brophy hitch mounted step with 2 steps on it. It is easy to use but harder to store than the ladder. It would be nice to have one made of aluminum instead of steel, although the steel one was easier to repair in Baja when I backed it into a rock and bent it up. It still works after 26 years.
