Does anybody has experience with these edgestar freezers?

http://edgestar.com/products/fridgefreeze/fp430.asp

I just saw them on Amazon, they are cheaper in price than the Engels, but they might also be cheaper all around.

The Edgestar 43 is $469

The Engel 45 is $696

This $230 difference might have a reason, and I wouldn't like to find it out in the middle of nowhere.

Does anybody out there use one of these?

its all in the amps

In regards to your ? I think you have to compare the amount of amps each draws to compare the two.If i remember the engle draws 2.5 max amps, looks like the unit you are looking at draws 4.5 at max.Seems like they use a different type of compressor, should be easy to find out.
Just my 5 cents worth (inflation!).
Drive slow and enjoy "its the journey"

Les is right... the big thing to look for is power draw. Most (if not all) of the fridge/freezers I have seen recommended us the Danfoss swing type compressor. If you are looking for a cheaper model, often the Waeco units are a little cheaper. I have one of their older models and have been using it almost everyday for the last year or so.

Beware of that company. They keep changing their brand names and marketing the same schlock when there get to be too many consumer complaints about the old brand.

My nickel's worth...

Out of curiousity, what was their old company name (or names)? I would hate for any of us to stumble upon one of their old products thinking it is a good deal too!

Currently the "Edgestar" brand is marketed by a company called "Compact Appliance" (http://www.compactappliance.com/). The brand is also marketed by a company called "Living Direct" (http://www.livingdirect.com/).

Comparing websites, you might make the observation that they were both designed by the same firm. ;) The corporate sales information for Compact Appliance, according to their website, is:

Wholesale/Corporate Sales Division of Richlund Ventures, Inc.
Address: 8606 Wall Street, Suite 1800
Austin, TX 78754
Phone: 800.297.6076
Fax: 512 467-2101
Email: corporate@CompactAppliance.com

The corporate sales address for Living Direct, according to their website, is:

Wholesale/Corporate Sales Division of Richlund Ventures, Inc.

Phone: 888.645.3402

Googling Richmund Ventures shows lots of interesting links. (I wouldn't put too much stock in the "Rip-off report" links because that website is operated by litigators who are looking for people to sue.)

Here's the link that I found interesting: http://www.richlundsupply.com/all_refrigerator.htm. When you go there, you will see that Richlund Supply writes:

We have provided key information on some top selling all refrigeration models in the table below. Feel free to call one of our experts if you need further information or click here to request a quote or further information.

Notice here they have listed several recognizable brands of refrigerators, along with their own house brand. I clicked on the "Engel" logo and then looked for Engel dealers in Texas. Richlund Supply is not listed...

I wasn't able to find "too many" complaints today, but I did find some. So, I will back away from my earlier claim that...

They keep changing their brand names and marketing the same schlock when there get to be too many consumer complaints about the old brand.

...because the evidence is not close at hand *today*. Still, and all, I would steer clear of any company who has so many different storefronts and who lists manufacturers whom they don't represent, but makes it look like they do...
