I was thinking about the camper this week as I was airing it out from a recent wet and rainy weekend. I had the vent open and the fan on for part of the day. Then I decided to keep the vent open over night.

Well, of course it started raining about 3am and I had to go out and close the vent. Thank goodness I woke up then!

Anyhow, I have seen those Maxxair vent covers. Nice, but don't really want to run with one mounted on the roof all of the time. Then I had a flash of insight and thought that maybe I could get one of these cheaper vent covers and just put it on when here at the house. Then, I could keep the vent open, keep the camper dry, and not have to worry about the rain. Heck, if I really wanted, I could add some solar cells, a small fan, and have active ventillation up there. When it is time to leave, I could just take it off and store at home.

Anyone done this? I know, I could just mount it permanent. But, makes it tough to get kayaks, canoes, and crap up on the roof for travel. The extra few inches might make me pay more on those state ferries as well.

Thanks for your thoughts.

If you don't mind spending a few extra bucks, I think the Fantastic Vent Company makes a powered roof vent fan with the rain senson that will automatically close the roof vent if it starts to rain ??

I added a maxx air II over a fantastic fan on my trailer. The mounts can connect with clevis pins for easy removal or leave on based on the trip. So far really good airflow. Planning to add a second set up to the front vent soon.

It's a very nice unit. I replaced the vent above the stove with one I found on ebay.

Ahh, good to know. Did not know that there is an option to not permanently mount it.
That might be the way to go. Next time I am near camping world or some place that sells them I will have to look into it. This sounds like a nice project for the fall.

Thanks, all

Stock one side is clevis pins and the other uses a bolts/nuts as a hinge. Couple extra pins and no tool easy removal.
