After much research and waiting, we finally got our family adventure rig complete in May 2021. Unfortunately, we have run out of seating space because fortunately, our family of 5 is bumping up to 6. For this reason alone, we are putting our rig up for sale. We’ve only camped in it a handful of nights, so the buyer will be getting a like new set up. We were recently told the wait at FWC for flatbeds was up to 18 months if you ordered today. If you are looking for a winter ski rig, escape to the sunshine, or all around rock solid adventuring mobile, this would be a good fit.

We are sad to be back to the adventure rig drawing board but very excited for the growth of our family. Much of the camper has been detailed on other reviews or the FWC website. For interested buyers, I am happy to set up a time to FaceTime or Zoom for a walk through, systems check, etc. It’s been snowing quite a bit, so I’d prefer to show the build off in the sunshine! In the meantime, here are some starter photos.

We are located in Moscow, Idaho and the truck/tray/camper is for sale for $89,000. If interested, please send me a private message or an email to 2020grandbyflatbedidaho@gmail.com

2017 Ford F-350 XLT Crew Cab FX4 6.2L V8 GAS

We purchased the truck in the August 2020 with 27,512 miles. The flatbed was installed in March 2021 and the camper went on in May 2021. Today, the truck sits at 36,653 miles. The XLT seats 6, comes with a locking rear differential, XM radio, cruise control, power fold mirrors, and your basic Ford radio/climate control system.

The 6.2L gas engine has performed very well for this setup. It holds Montana highway speeds without issue and climbs mountain highway grades without any slowdown. With the price of a Diesel engine and our use case, the gas engine made sense. We would make the same choice if doing it over. We were also concerned with ensuring we did not push up to the payload of the truck with 5 people. In this truck, our payload is 3,657 pounds. Our trips were majority highway miles ending with usually less than an hour on a well maintained Forest Service road.

Upgrades:
- Boise Spring Works 4 leaf stage 2 rear suspension
- 285/70/R17 General Grabber A/TX E tires {Installed April 2021, approx 6k miles)
- Rigid D-series SAE fog lights wired to Aux 1 switch
- Rigid D-series Hyperspot lights wired to Aux 2 switch
- Marathon seat covers (brown)

2021 Alumline Tray

We chose Alumline after researching a number of manufacturers. We were sold on Alumline’s customer service and willingness to build exactly what we wanted for our camper. The flatbed has a headache rack with lights, 2 large front storage boxes, and 2 large tapered rear storage boxes. Of note, we had Alumline build a 30”x88” storage tray underneath the tray, which can hold any number of things, to include fishing poles and skis, shovels, axe, etc. It also came with a mountable table that can drop into any of the slots around the sides of the tray. Finally, we had a set of Rigid flood lights installed into the rear and wired to the reverse lights to ensure we could see what we were going at night using the rear camera.

2020 Four Wheel Camper Grandby Flatbed

Since installation in May 2021, we have not camped as much as we did the previous summers, totaling less than ten nights. The interior stove was never used as we prefer to cook outside.

Here are our build sheet options:
- 85 liter 2 way refrigerator/freezer
- forced air furnace with thermostat
- 6 gallon water heater with outside shower
- 2 powered roof vent fans
- flush mount sink and stove
- dual 6 volt battery upgrade
- 160 watt solar panel with MPPT controller
- thermal pack
- UTE built in cassette toilet
- UTE 8’ side awning
- Yakima roof tracks
- side wall steps
- LED rear flood lights
- LED side flood lights
- 5 step scissor step
- UTE rear rack
- Silver spur interior & exterior
- Fabric dovetail greystone
