Fort Rock Area, Oregon - July 2020

Sounds like you encountered a few of Oregon’s less thoughtful folks on this leg of the trip. That takes away from some of the joy. That aside, a great TR. Thanks for letting us tag along vicariously.

Very interesting trip report. Thanks for sharing. We want to get our kayaks into some of the local mountain lakes, but are worried about those careless crowds.

Thanks great trip,as usual.
Sorry to read about the rude people and dog.
Can't stand either.Although the dog has an excuse
it's the owners place to control the dog.

The Crack in the Ground reminds me of the head waters of the Rouge
river. It flows through a "crack", Rogue River Gorge.Nice stopping place right along
the side of the road.
Anyway enjoyed the trip.

The two of you always find interesting places to explore. Its tough these days to venter out and find empty places. Im shocked you had so many people around. seems like everyones out trying to be normal. But we are not in normal times. Thanks for the post... marked them on my map next time in in eastern Oregon.

You are most welcome, Mr. Sage. Yup, there are a lot of "less thoughtful" people out and about this year. Deep breath - at an extra large social distance - and do your best to "model good behavior" as Julie always tells me. :)

Thanks AWG! And you are most welcome.

"It's our habits that save our lives," was the main take away from one of my favorite avalanche hazard instructors. In all our first aid trainings the first assessment is always - is the scene safe? Boy, do we take a good long look around these days. Habit.

Thanks Fernweh for your nice comment. No, we are not in normal times and it is pretty surprising people choose not to acknowledge that fact. We're happy to put places on your map. :)

Wow, cracks and caves and trees. This trip had it all. I've never seen a lookout like that. Interesting.

Yup Craig, that was one sturdy structure. Thanks for the nice comment!

Nice report on that area, it is very unique. We once visited Crack In The Ground in early June. It was 90 degrees out, but the bottom of the crack was packed with ice. Looks like the first step on the ice would send you to the bottom with no escape.
I've been out there many times and never saw another soul. Strange times.

BTW, between Fort Rock and Hole ITG, is Cow Cave on private land. Very significant discovery.
