In the past day, we've been working to update the forum to a new software platform and we've been offline. Welcome back! The new forum software is called Xenforo and there are some new features and functions.

LOGIN CHANGE:
Your account can be accessed by logging in with your e-mail address or Display Name (that displays on posts) plus the password for your account. If you used to log in with the hidden username, that no longer works. If you are having trouble with this and can't get through the password reset process, you can click the contact link at the bottom of the page to reach out for help.

If you've set up a new account because you couldn't access your old one let us know. We can consolidate these and get you logged back into your old account.

There are many new features and I encourage you to wander around, test things out and then visit your profile and do some updating. Please keep in mind that changes and adjustments are still being made and so views will become more refined over the next few days.

Update your profile:
  • Consider uploading a new avatar (little pic next to your posts). The new site accommodates larger images and old avatars are looking a little tired. Avatars will automatically resize - choose a good one!
  • Update your signature if needed
  • Add a profile banner - larger image that displays on your profile page
Mobile viewing
The site runs well on small screens. Try it out on the road, and use your regular login - no app required. Set a bookmark for the site on mobile for fast access and look for push notifications (coming soon) to stay up to date.

Thread marking:
The forum remembers what you have already read and will display new unread threads as bolded or when you click into an ongoing thread, takes you to unread content BUT: You may need to Mark a forum "read" for this to work correctly moving forward. The conversion could not "remember" what you have already seen and so initially all threads may appear as unread. To do this, open a forum and look for the link at the top of the list of threads to "Mark Read". Alternatively, use the 'Mark Forums Read' link at the top of the page to mark all.

There are many things still being tweaked and fiddled with and you will continue to see some changes but we wanted to get back online as soon as possible - thanks in advance for your patience.

Still under construction:
New Forum 101 Thread (how to navigate the board and configure accounts)
More items as they are discovered

Post up if you have questions - we're all learning

How to delete conversations?

Complicated answer:

You have to "leave" the conversation.

Open up your message list and select the conversation you want to remove. (small selection box)

A moderation/ management bar will slide in from the bottom of the page and you can make your choices and hit GO.

The good news here is that the messaging system is waaaay more robust and handles images well. There is unlimited message storage so you really don't need to clean these out.

Thanks to the support team for quickly getting back to me with the info to allow me to log back into the forum. I didn't understand the difference between "hidden username" and "display name"—though it makes sense in retrospect. Also a bit of operator error when I tried to use the wrong email address. D'oh!

Our old software was VERY old and some members had that extra hidden username. When you have a chance you can update your account here: https://www.wanderthewest.com/account/account-details
Update email and password as needed.

Thanks for the update. How do you edit a post? There used to be an “edit” on the bottom of a post. I just posted under trip reports and can’t find the “edit” feature.
I put picture links in too from WTW. I see the link vice the picture. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

It has taken me awhile to find my way around in the new software but mostly, I am finding the performance smooth & fast. Image handling works well and easier to add images without editing (shrinking, esp.)
Didn't realize how much muscle memory I had acquired over the years
good job and, even though, I also have experienced some withdrawal pangs these last few days, the extra time was well spent. (y)

Thanks for the update.

It appears my linked photos (from Imgur) are broken now and I don’t see a way to edit those posts to fix or upload those photos directly?

We had some issues getting the images to show properly at first, but it should be fixed now.

You should also be able to edit recent posts.

Apparently the options for automatically following the content I create didn't transfer over to the new software. You have to go to Your Account/Settings/Preferences/Content Options to set how you want to handle follows or what I guess is now called "watch." A small surprise, but I can handle that ;)

You are back, you r back! When you were not here the other day, it was like an old friend has just left-without a word-just a line at the top page:rolleyes:! But here you are back with a new beer to taste (that sounds pretty corny, but this setup looks nice---now will the search bar work?

I had to create this new account to get logged in and would like it to be turned over into my existing account user name DLN. Thank You.
