Didn't want to hijack the Ski3pin's wonderful account of their new camper, but I noticed that they mention putting 40-pound struts in the front of their camper. I'm wondering if there are pros and cons to 30 and 40 pound struts? I'm thinking I might benefit from beefing mine up from 30 to 40. I'm not getting any younger and note some low back pain creeping into my life. Snarl. Grumble...Whinge.

Thoughts, please?

Advice, etc. most welcome.

Thanx.

N'kwala - I'd suggest seeing if the ATC guys would swap the fronts for 40 lbs so you could check out the difference. We do notice the front goes up a bit easier on the new camper. The trade off is that it is a bit more work to pull down. It could be "fine tuned" a little bit by having one 30 and one 40 up front. Safe and happy travels and we're looking forward to enjoying your next trip report. :)

I have 40s all around and work well.Easy up and slow down but doable and easy on the back.

x2. We have 40s all around also. Helps going up when there is a load on the roof, like our canoe. When there is no load on the roof, it almost goes up by itself. I pull the roof down from outside while the wife handles the inside tasks. Works well.

I have 35# all round on my Ranger II (Eagle) and they are just right. Bought them on ebay. With no roof load I can sit on the couch and lift the roof with 1 finger. Just get it started and it raises by itself, yet comes down with only a slight pull on the lift panels. I also carry the same 50# canoe as CER and it is still easy to lift and comes down slow enough not to crash.
