We took a quick “Fall colors” trip to the Gold Lakes Basin 4x4 camp. The last 1.7 miles is the 4x4 part. It was challenging but “doable.” The fishing was off, but the lakeside campsite and lack of people was nice. The NFS has put in several new pit toilets, but they were all locked up for “maintenance.” IMG_0481.JPGIMG_0481.JPG

Pretty area. We MTB'd thru there a number of years ago. Road up to the ridgeline from Packsaddle and then veered off that direction instead of the normal Downieville DH ride.

When facilities are closed up at the end of the season, many times agencies use CXT toilets to stores signage. It beats driving it all the way back to the work center and taking up storage room there. I bet that's why they are now locked.

Thanks for the photo.Gold Lakes is one on the prettiest areas
we have been to.Spent several days at Goose Lake years ago.
We did a lot of day hiking and fishing in the area.

Thanks for a reminder. Haven’t been to the GL Basin area for maybe 20 years. Mostly rocks & ruts is my memory? 15 or so campsites? Dragging a Malone xlight kayak trailer w/12” bias tires, probably out of the question?
