Has FWC ever built a Hawk or Eagle camper without the lower section(floor)? By that, I mean the sides mount to the top of the pickup bed sides and the camper floor would be the truck bed, just like a camper shell does.

I think the design requires the floor pack to give it strength. When I narrowed an older unit, it was very flimsy when the wood wasn't attached.

I built a poptop camper for my wife's truck in 1997 that was constructed this way. The shell was bolted to the top of the bed rails just like a regular camper shell. This saved lots of weight (only 300 lbs for the shell) which we needed since it was a 4 cylinder 93 Nissan. It was on the truck for 10 years and worked great. If you are not planning on removing the camper this is a good way to go, maximizes interior room and minimizes weight. Maybe ATC would build one for you.
