Queen or King size bed upgrades for a FWC Hawk.
I recently purchased a HAWK Shell with standard slide out king size bed option.
I'm curious to those who have upgraded the mattress for comfort as a side sleeper what you have went to, what clearance there is for when the shell is closed, and if don't extend the bed out to its full capacity what size one piece mattress fits in that area. Thank you.

I just put a 2 inch memory foam topper I purchased at Wally World on my new Hawk. I bought the “Full” size and then cut it to fit the standard mattress without sliding it out to make a queen or king. I put on a fitted sheet, again in “Full” size. I think it is going to work well.
If the center board for pushing up the top was not there you could get away with a 3 inch topper but with that board there it would make it pretty tight.
Here is a photo of mine when I finished it.

We started by putting a 1-1/2" memory foam topper on the hard 4" thick OEM mattress in our 2007 FWC Keystone. After discovering water damage to the original mattress we saved the covers and replaced the OEM foam with 4" thick High Resilience foam having a firmness of medium firm. Later, we added a Froli spring kit under the mattress for more hip cushion as well as ventilation/insulation (air barrier between the floor of the cab over and the bottom of the mattress).

Condensation under the mattress is a real thing that leads to mold growth! Best to use something to allow the underside of the mattress to air out.
