Hella 500 Driving Lights

Found a deal a couple weeks back on Hella 500 driving lights on Amazon if anyone is interested. A complete set of 2 lights ,covers, all wiring, fuse, relay, and switch, for $39.99. I noticed several of the tucks in the DV rally had Hellas.
I think Craig had a broken one, here's a chance to replace it cheap.

Yes I’m running Hella’s 4000 Rallye lights. One cornering and one Euro Beam 100 watts. Love that cornering light.

Don’t know what the 500 do but the price sounds good.

What do you suppose a 15mph. frontal impact would cost you, 8k to 10k is my guess.

Light is good

I installed the Painless Wiring kit that keeps the low beams on with the high beams instead of turning turning the low beams off when the high beams are on. Does that make any sense? It's happy hour here, too. Anyway, I get lots of light for very little work and expense.

when I see those lights it looks like the red and blues our next .All you need is a driver side spotlight and a amplifier and your a cop in the distance looking for a kegger.

When I have my Lightforces on, you can't tell that my stock highbeams are doing anything at all. Sucks having a broken light. Still waiting for the funds to fix that.

Thats not a bad deal. Those go for $45 a piece normally

The 500's use an H3 bulb. Upgradeable to higher wattage if you wanted though whether the housing could take the hate I don't know.

I just bought a pair of these on e-bay with that link for $ 39.99 (no sales tax & free shipping).

Had a few extra $$ in the PayPal account, so it made the purchase easy.

I wasn't shopping for new lights, but I HATE my cheap Wal-Mart $15 driving lights. I was in need of an upgrade anyway.

I was in Wal-Mart today and they are selling these same Hella 500 lights for $ 60.00. So E-bay is the way to go if you want to save about $ 20 bucks + tax.

How easy (or not) is it to hook up the switch inside?

Easy enough if you mount the relay under the hood... you just have to get a couple small wires through the fire wall and find a ground behind the dash. Took about an hour to wire them up.

When I did mine, the only slightly difficult part was getting the wires through the firewall. The rest was easy.

Installed yesterday. A very nice complement to my Lightforces and much cheaper. The ebay supplier was prompt and had it well packaged. No shipping charges either.

Yes, the E-bay shipper was great for me too.

Got my set already, $ 39.99 (free shipping, no tax).

I put em' on this morning before I left for work.

Haven't hooked up the wiring yet.

I wanted to space them out wider to get a better / wider driving light.

Not sure I like where they are now for looks and might end up moving them later. But I think I would rather have the best functionality vs. the best looks.

I'm not sure about legalities of using these at night in additional to my normal head lights on roads and freeways around here ??



They look pretty crazy for daily driving purposes.


Oh well, I can tinker with them next months after we get finished with the next 2 shows.

How is the light pattern effected by the sideway mount?

I wired mine using the stock high beams as the power source (to a relay, they still get full voltage). This way as soon as I click the lights back to low the aux lights go off too.

Want HID?

Reading my Jeep magazine I ran across these. 7" HID off road lights.
Here's what the mag had to say.

"The amount of light that our two 7-inch HID off road lights produce is unbelievable. It's like turning the sun on at night and focusing it front of your Jeep. Once you've driven at night with these lights, running just the factory headlights on high feels like driving by candlelight. We've had the Kragen HID"S on our Jeep for nearly a year now and have even put them through the local high pressure carwash many times without issues. Overall the lights look like quality parts from far away. But when you get up close you notice there is a lot of plastic. Up and down adjustibility is a little more limited compared to the more expensive HID lights on the market. However, these cheapie HID's have glass lenses, which is characteristic of high end off road lights. The Kragen HID's come with a fused wiring harness and clear lens protectors snap firmly into place. Our lens protectors have done their job but have yellowed a little over time. Fortunately it doesn't look too bad and has not affected the performance. For the price they're hard to beat. We'd certainly purchase the Kragen HID's again".

A little plastic doesn't bother me and they're cheap at $99 for HID. I may just give them a try.
