Kayak: Anyone carrying one vertically off the rear?

I have a kayak carrier I made (copied off a 'high priced one') for our RV. Now I'm thinking if I can use it on the rear of the ATC. It comprises a full length wide of the truck and goes in the trailer hitch receiver. My 10 ft yak would stand vertically. Other than the height while driving I'm now thinking I can construct a mount to bolt on the jack mounts. Originally, the mount was bolted and welded to the carrier sticking up but It wouldn't work on the ATC as it would block the door..

Anyone carrying a yak on the back?

I use a Malone kayak trailer. It is a lot easier to load/unload and it is rough going can leave it at campsite or back home.

I also have a trailer, but don't want to be towing it....

I can't imagine having something that long sticking vertical
on the back of a pop up.
The amount of kayak above the roof seems like a great wind drag.
Just IOM.

Have you thought about carrying it on the roof?
I used to carry my 12' canoe up there and it worked well .

I'm lazy and ATC says to take kayak off roof before raising it.....

I just got a Malone trailer. I think I’ll use my boat more (double) not needing to lift it to the roof. Anyone with the trailer take it on long trips 2,000 mile+?

Did Marty give a reason for not caring the kayak on top?
I have a Bobcat and for many years/miles carried the canoe on top.
No problems.

With age and not wanting to hurt ourselves we don't use it anymore.
Also a lot of trips we carried it along and never used it.
Plus there are a lot states I would have to drive through the required a sticker (for a fee)
just to drive through.

We now have a Advanced Elements 13' inflatable kayak that I can carry in the truck cab.

Marty did not say that you can't carry it on the roof.
He said you should take it off the roof before you raise the roof....

Here's the carrier (when it was under construction ) to fit on the rear of our Rv, which we have sold.
The more I think about it , the more it sounds crazy but I will try it when I put the camper back on the truck....
