Heading to New Mexico at the end of the month to ride dirtbikes. I am looking for spots to set up basecamp. I have a 4wd Ram with an Eagle on it but towing a bike trailer so I can't do too much serious offroading. Riding mainly out of Dixon NM but first night will be between Taos and Oklahoma state line.

Not sure where Dixon, NM is but there are some nice boondocking areas north of Jemez Springs all the way up to and around Valle Caldera. (Gets busy on the weekends.) Also we really like the area south of Cloudcroft up to Sunspot Observatory.

If you do bring your dirtbikes to the Sacramento Ranger District of the Lincoln NF (south of Cloudcroft - Durango1's recommendation), consider riding the Rim Trail starting south of Slide Campground. Just be aware that you will be sharing it with hikers and bicycles.

Rim Trail

There are many other motorized use trails in the area. You can pick up a motorized use map at the Ranger Station in Cloudcroft.

Dispersed camping is available off most forest roads to set up basecamp.
