Heading to Moab in mid October to do a little dirtbike riding. I am thinking about camping at Sand Flats Recreation area and also camping along Kane Creek. Has anyone here stayed at either area?

I've stayed at Sand Flats and it's ok. You need to leave something in your site to show it's taken, though, and I had the camp chair I left stolen. Rangers said that was the first time it had happened.

Stayed in Sand Flats one year. Just spots and primitive pit toilets. No hookups water or showers. You can also stay along the Colorado river north of town along the 128 highway. I prefer saying at the RV campgrounds. You get dusty, sweaty and hot in Moab. Like the convenience. That said you can stay at primitive spots and buy showers at various places in town. I like Pack Creek campground. Cheap and less close to main road.

Milts is the best place in Moab to eat. I'm pretty much self-contained camper wise, solar shower too. I have a dirtbike so Sand Flats gets me close to Slickrock trail and some of the Jeep trails too. I was thinking Kane Creek would be nice when we do Lockhart canyon too. I prefer BLM land and will stay at a nice spot I found near Needles Overlook too.

After Rustlers Road where Needles Road takes a jog to the right. Site is on the left, you can see it on Google Earth. Nothing too primitive but it has a great view and you can hike to the edge of the canyon.

OK, I think I see that. Thanks!
