Light snow tonight in Tahoe @ 7400'. Am researching various campers - toured the 4W facility in Woodland a couple of weeks ago, have spoken w/the All Terrain people in Sacramento and browsed the Outfitter and Lite people in CO. Trouble is, I grew up in Seattle and you know how those old sentiments can skew thinking.....remember "Sergeant Preston of the Yukon" (on radio), many cups of chowder on the waterfront where the Al-Can begins, and so, naturally, had to chat it up w/the Alaskan Camper people in Chehalis.....if you go to their website, you see a lot of 60's and 70's campers sought and for sale and still going strong. Got a line on a 60's 8' Alaskan non cab over for my Chevy stretch-cab light duty 3/4 ton and believe me, it looks sturdy (and heavy!) - but its the NW and the old tough days, the Huskies, you know.....Will probably settle on a 4W or All Terrain new shell and build it out as I go....was an industrial engineer at Boeing for a while......and kind of assimilated that way of getting things done. But for all of you experienced folk out there - for this thoroughly inexperienced camper wannabee - any thoughts on the Alaskan vs. the new All Terrain/4W alternative. Thanks very much for your forum site.....have learned a lot!

Hi Corisam, welcome to the board!

Alaskan Campers are interesting. I'd like to know more about them but their website is uhm.. well.. "an adventure" to say the least. I hear the interiors are pretty nice.

Nice to see you on the forum. Regarding Alaskan campers, they have a long history and great reputation. Here's the but; twice as heavy and more than twice the price.

Alaskan Camper

The Alaskan Camer is the Rolls Royce of truck campers. Built to out last any truck, and most owners.:):)

You can get a lot of extras with an Alaskan that no one else offers in the same size camper.

Fantastic frame work on the Alaskan also. The only real drawback is the weight of the camper. Other than that you really can't go wrong with one as far as durability goes. They have been around for ages and I have never heard anything bad about thier customer service either.

Sincerely,
Ben

Thank you for inputs......

Really, I'd like to try the Alaskan, but 40 years!? ....... I mean I know what damage 40 years did to me! Think I'll roust these guys down at All Terrain and try to talk them into something really different, really new! Thanks again, people! Currently 8 degrees out tonight, low expected here in Tahoe of -l this noche!
