Hello to all, my wife and I are planning a trip this July from here, Spokane, WA to northern California to visit family and fly fish. I am looking at the lower McCloud River, Pitt River, Hat Creek area and wondering if anyone has information on good, read 'primative' camping areas in that neck of the woods. Good fishing nearby is a plus. Not looking for your secret nirvana, but and help would be appreciated and reciprocated if you find yourselves headed in this direction. Cheers.

Last week I did a quick driveby of the McCloud river loop and falls. There were several small forrest service camping areas along the river. Pit toilets and tables and the sites seemed to be well spaced. Not sure how the fishing is.

Since you'll be in the neighborhood you really need to spend a day in LVNP. Unfortunately the pit isn't the greatest for public access. Wish I could help more but I haven't been up that way much since I last worked for CDF.
