I was doing some looking this morning, planning a couple of fishing trips there while the wife is at a wedding in Alberta.
There are too many small lakes to fish so will concentrate on the small lakes between the Alaska Highway and Dease Lake which is four hours drive from our house.

I found this brochure which you might find useful if you are planning the drive..

Thanks for posting the link,Robbie.
We have made that trip almost two times. The second time had to turn back at Dease Lake due to landslide south over the road.
Enjoyed the trip. One of the most beautiful places and nice camping.

WOW! You are basking in the sun. Have you had much cold weather yet this year?
We always think about a return trip.Would like to at least make that trip on the Cassiar.

My wife and I drove to Prudhoe Bay last year and I can't tell you the number of people who advised against driving the Cassier -- too remote, bad road, blah, blah. It was absolutely the best part of the trip.

The main problem I saw with the Cassiar would be the possibility of the road being closed. Being stuck between some slide areas wouldn't be much fun.
When the road closed on us there were people stuck in Steward and weren't able to get out for a while.
They had to have barges sent in to get their campers/cars out.
But it is one of the most beautiful road drives around.Only a few miles of gravel, but that is nice and graded.
I can't say enough for it.And if you are traveling through it is 150 miles shorter that the AlCan.
Take the plunge.

Two pictures taken along the Cassiar.

Please excuse the big ugly bike in some of them.

Re the road being closed.. Stuff happens. had the Alaska Highway closed 90 miles north of Watson lake a few yrs ago for 5 days...
Susan was in europe with our daughter so had 5 different groups at our house. We did fine. If you come up here and are worried about the bad things that might happen you better stay home.

If you want any specific questions answered.. yukonknives@gmail.com

I will do the best I can to answer.

Just to let you know you can buy toilet paper up here.. oh beer too..

Did the Cassiar in 98 when it was still all gravel and had no problems and it was one of the highlights of our AK trip. Beat the hell out of the ALCAN.

Robbie,

Thanks for the brochure, I have it bookmarked! Starting to plan our trip to BC and AK. Thanks again looks like we will be taking this drive.

We were down the Alaska Highway this morning to the Hyland River Bridge. 30 minutes from our house. First time we have been down there and did not see an animal. Always see bison but not a track. They must be further east on the road near Liard Hot Springs.

Real nice day up here. Bright sunshine and just at freezing for temperature. I am heading out for a hike..
