Being new to Arizona there are lots of places for me to explore. This weekend we decided on a quick trip to the Pinal Mountains south of Globe. It was about 2:00 on Friday afternoon when we got on the road out of Mesa headed toward Globe.
Just between Claypool and Globe we turned off at the sign for Pinal Mountain Recreation area and kind of dead reckoned our way through the streets until we reached FR 651 where the pavement ended. From there it was somewhere around 15 miles up to Pinal Peak. On the way up we passed Sulphide Del Rey CG at around 5400 ft but we wanted to keep going higher. We ended up at Pinal CG at around 7600 ft though we did go on to Upper Pinal CG to check it out but it was smaller and there were already others there and nobody was at Pinal CG and the views were better.
ATV traffic was minimal, always a bonus when camping on FS lands. Looking forward to going back and exploring more.
Now for a few pics...
