Now that we are at the unofficial start of summer and many of us are hitting the road and busting loose, what are some of your favorite events and festivals you plan to attend? We prefer the quirky, less ordinary, half a bubble out of plumb events such as -

Tour de Manure

a metric century bike race/event through the Sierra Valley in Northern California

Mike the Headless Chicken Festival

in Fruita, CO. Run like a chicken with its head cut off during the day and dance like a chicken with its head cut off at night - divine.

The Harmonica Festival in Yellow Pine

drive miles and miles on dirt roads to attend.

What are your favorites?

One of our friends started one of the first Pumpkin Chuckin' festivals....... in Delaware.

We attend the annual meeting of the Orgon Native Plant society....but this year it is sold out : (

Mine is the Poquoson Work Boat Races held on the York River just off of the main body of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. The classic lines of a wood-hulled Bay workboat, a design referred to as a deadrise, flying through the chop with diesel(s) roaring and putting out thick columns of black smoke is a sight to see. The skippers take their boats out of everyday service a week or two before the races to haul-out and clean/paint the bottom, install a racing wheel (propeller), and to monkey with the diesel's tune and fuel chemistry. After the races, it's back to work.

Love the "chokes".
Sorry the festival left Castroville a few years ago for the fairgrounds in Monterey.
It had a nice hometown feel while in Cartroville for about 50 years.
