I seem to recall seeing a photo of a FWC with a siding window in the rear door. I remember it having a screened vertical slider on the bottom half of the window. Yet I am unable to find any photos on FWCs website or on this forum. Can anyone help with this? I am remodeling my Fleet and would love to have that option as I don't have a screen door. Thanks.

My old Keystone has the vertically sliding window. It is exactly the same as one I had on my previous camper, a hard side unit. This sliding window has been around for at least 40 years. However, I don't know who supplies it. It almost as good as a screen door.

I would be surprised if you can still find one (unless you get one off an old camper).

I'm pretty sure that the laws have changed over the years.

I have always heard it is against the law for us to put an opening window on the rear wall of the camper as a manufacturer.

Pretty sure it has to do with the exhaust from the truck.

I think if the window was cracked open while you were driving or open and you had your truck running, the truck exhaust could come in and you might die.

I'm sure it happened to people in truck campers over the years, so this is why you won't see it on any truck campers these days.

They are to watch out for the consumer.

New Door

You might not be able to find a door with opening window, but a new door with a screen isn't too expensive. I just replaced the rear door on my Grandby with one containing a screen and dead bolt. I picked it up at ATC because they were close, and it was $215.00. Took about 30 minutes to replace. piece of cake if you own a screw gun.

Good advice rat, I can't imagine being without the screen door, that's one good piece of advice I got from experienced camper and trailer friends before we bought our FWC. The bad advice from the same sources was that we could do without the furnace, not a chance in h**l. I installed it four months after we got the camper and we love it.

I replaced my door a few years ago & was able to order one with an openable window. If I recall I ordered it from a RV salvage yard in the Elkhart, Indiana area but it was a new door as he didn't have any used ones that would fit. Not real impressed with the quality & I'm still looking for a better one. I also miss the screen door I had with my old one so when I replace it again I'll make sure I get a screen door - probably more usefull than the openable window IMO.
