Roof vent replacement

I just replaced one of the roof vents on my '88 Grandby and have a couple questions before I call it done.
The holes on the new vent didn't line up so before I drilled new ones I silicon-ed over all the old holes. Put the Butyl tape on the underside of the vent frame and used metal roofing screws -the ones with rubber gaskets- instead of the sheet metal screws supplied.

As you can see in the pic, the butyl squeezes out in some spots, but in the areas of lower elevation in the ribbing of the roof, it doesn't. Should I be concerned about this? Should I remove the excess butyl and seal entire perimeter of vent with some caulk style sealant? If so, recommendations?
I would rather deal with it's now as it dry, cleaned with a wire wheel, and my shop is currently empty!
Thanks for the advice.

Finish it off with caulking. You can get one for roofs, its a little liquider so it runs to the low spots. The reg. caulking works too.
I have been resealing my unit as well and been told by 2 co. to do it this way.
Basical a three step I guess, caulk, butyl, caulk.
Good luck...............

Yes, I would run a bead of sealant around the vent.

And also put a dab of sealant over each roof vent screw (just for good measure).

It would be better to do it right the first time and then be done with it for some time to come.

Thanks. Any recommendations on a good sealant to use? I've got some silicone tub and tile caulk kicking around the shop....

Next project is modified lift supports for my new On Stage roof lifter. Rainy weekends aren't all bad.

Million $ questioned. I just went with the what the RV guys use.

Oops forgot that last step, a dab on top of the screw. One of the co. I contacted was FWC an thats how they do it. Ask the pro's I always say.

I would recommend a good marine type sealant. Made for outdoor use.

Airstream used a sealant called Vulkem, now Trempro 635 I believe. This is a polyurethane sealant that is very long lived, at least on Airstreams. Vintage Trailer Supply carries it

This stuff sticks to aluminum and stays stuck. I haven't had much luck with silicone type caulks on aluminum.

The new version TremPro 635 Polyurethane sounds good.
