Very brief trip report -

The San Juan Islands are close to us. The forecast was good. We had no other obligations. So, a Friday afternoon booking on the M/V Chelan delivered us to our Shaw Island shangri la in time for a little property clean up, camp set up, dinner and relaxing campfire. Day 2 was spent enjoying flowers, birds, beaches, hammock time, good food, and another evening of chilling by the fire. On the way home, we stopped by the lovely Washington Park in Anacortes. More flowers, sunshine, nettle harvesting, and our griffon Mila found some quail, which are not common in our area.

My wife is the primary photographer, so afraid I only have a couple to share. The first is a glimpse of our camp. The second is the ferry landing at Lopez Island, where we stopped to take on passengers heading back to the mainland.

Ahh, the pop-up life! Hard to beat for comfort, convenience and fun!

Oh ,the San Juan's over the past 40+ years we have enjoyed several trips to them.
Our first camping trip was to Orcas Island back in1978 that was when you could still just
catch a ferry and find a campsite without any reservations.

Thanks for the photos.
Glad you had a great first trip in your new camper.

Love the banana slugs. We haven't been there since late July 09.
At that time it was very crowded but we did get a nice hike in before we
returned to the next ferry and continued out trip south.

Yes Orcas is a very magical place.

Glad to have stirred up some good memories for folks! The banana slugs are indeed amazing. We consider ourselves fortunate to be close enough to hop on short notice

We used to take the ferry to Orcas for little league baseball games back in the day. It's gotten exponentially busier in the touristy parts of the bigger islands. But it's still a place where time slows, nature abounds, and stress seems to melt away.
