Finally convinced the wife to part with the motorhome. After many arguments over the price of fuel and the aging unit starting to nickel and dime us, I WON!
Since I started a new job, our Super Duty is no longer my daily driver so we turned it into our all purpose rig. We were going to hold off and try to find a camper but an 88'Hawk turned up locally on CL so I snatched it.
I had to build a "platform" for it to get the cabover portion off of the cab of the truck. I used a 1/2" of solid styrofoam insulation, 1/2" sheet of plywood and three 2x6 stringer along the bottom. My thought was if any water does pool in the bed, the camper won't be sitting in it.
We had our maiden voyage this past weekend and the wife actually warmed up to it fairly quickly (except for having to travel to the restroom). I strapped the the camper down with two ratchet straps in the rear. The eye bolts on my Hawk are mounted outboard on the edge of the camper. What is the correct way to tie the camper down? My Hawk only has an access door to the bed on one side. should i cut one in the other so I can get to the two front factory tie down points in the bed? Any pics or help would be appreciated.
thanks in advance, dino
