SOLD Necky Tofino Tandem Kayak - $1500

We are at the time of life when when the time has come to sell our big double kayak. It's a 20' Necky Tofino Expedition glass layup. Like all glass kayaks, it's heavy, but very stable and reasonably fast. Necky sold to Old Town some years ago, and the Tofino has been discontinued, but there are a number of reviews available on the web if you're interested in the opinions of other paddlers.

This is the same model kayak that Ned Gillette paddled from Monterey, California to Kahuluil, Hawaii in 1987.

We are asking $1500. If needed, we can include paddles and a small cart. The photo below is of another Tofino, but I will pull our boat out of the shop and take as many photos as a buyer might be interested in. I am listing it here to see if there is anyone in WTW that might be interested, but will put it on craigslist in late winter or early spring.

We haven't given up kayaking, but are going to a smaller, lighter folding kayak.

If you want a good winter project check out pygmy boats in Port Townsend. We built a couple of kayaks from their list of models. They are less than half the weight of our old fiberglass boats. Ours are both 17 feet long and track very well. Mine is about 38 pounds and hers is just over 30 pounds. Works well for aging bodies.

Thanks Tony, I’ve considered Pygmy boats, in particular, their big triple, but I’m going to a smaller, folding boat. We ordered a Long Haul Mk II that should be here mid month. A boat in a bag has a lot of appear for storage and travel.


Here’s a link to Long Haul. I’ve looked at these boats for a couple of years, and finally had the opportunity to visit their operation. I’ve not seen a better skin on frame folder.

That looks like a fine foldboat Steve. I can see the advantages to folding it up, and putting in the camper between stops. I will be very curious how you get on with the new boat.

Good luck on the sale of your kayak. Thanks for posting the Ed Gillette story. That was one crazy adventure! The construction on your new folding unit is impressive. Hope you find a good home for your old girl.

Thanks all, the new boat arrived Monday, and it’s truly a beauty. A bit heavier than I expected, but it takes up a lot less room than the Necky. Because we’ve been spun up house hunting, I haven’t had the opportunity to assemble it, but had fun drooling over all the pieces.
