Structural failure at rear door header

Camelracer, There were several posts on this (older campers), on WTW. This would have been around 2011-2013. The siding split at the upper corners.

Vic, I believe the new rounded doors, more solid framing around the door have eliminated this problem.

I have an older Grandby that I am in the process of updating b/c of crack on both sides of the door, top and bottom (one side) and the door frame itself. I think over tightening of the turnbuckles, 8ft bed flex w/ only a partial aluminum fame and off road was the magic combination. I believe this is why FWC has the radius doors and windows now and beefed up their framing. FWIW, recently got to look at 2011 framing and its way beefier and better made than in 2000 Grandby. Its kool to see the progression of building.

This may also why there are complaints of the newer FWCs being heavier than the old ones, even on the empty shell models. I guess it is all a tradeoff.

I did a quick search as you suggested and found this picture that camelracer posted in May of 2009 when he was having his problems.

HUGH difference in how FWC was even then building frames from how mine was built. I notice how the rear outside corners are constructed which would also reduce the flexing (cracking) at the door. Another great idea for me to fix the problem since I have no siding in the way.

And rando (haven't heard from you in awhile) this construction is certainly heavier than the older campers.
