Succor Creek - Eastern Oregon

Headed to Eastern Oregon (barely over the Oregon/Idaho border) to the Succor Creek area. We have never explored this area and we very surprised by the amazing rock formations and colors. In fact we were so impressed we've gone back a total of three times this Spring. Spring is a perfect time of year to visit, Fall would also be perfect. I'd avoid the area like the plague in the Summer...I've been told by everyone there are snakes everywhere....I HATE SNAKES!

We noticed numerous rock columns

There is a free BLM campground and a decent number of other primitive camping spots available

We saw some wild horses trotting around. This area has been included in the BLM's wild horse adoption program

A side road off Succor Creek road is Leslie Gulch road. This road ends up at the Owhyee reservoir. The rock formations are different along Leslie Gulch than Succor Creek.

There's a great area to hike called Juniper Gulch, no trail, just follow the dry stream bed.

Succor Creek is worth a visit if you are traveling in Eastern Oregon or Southwest Idaho.

Two ways to access the area. Entering the area from the north side of Succor Creek take Oregon Highway 201 (the turn off to Succor Creek road is a couple miles west of the Idaho border on Oregon Highway 201. Entering the area from the south side of Succor Creek take US 95 between Marsing Idaho and Jordan Valley Oregon (sorry I don't have the mileage for the turnoff).

This area would be great to tie into a trip to any part of the Owhyee Mountains, Silver City ghost town, Owhyee Uplands Bi-way, etc. Silver City is a great ghost town to visit, they have an open house over Labor Day weekend where all the old buildings (privately owned) are opened up to the public to tour...of course for a $10 fee.

Very nice pictures, thanks for sharing. It looks like there's a new bridge and restrooms since I was there. We were there with a work group inventorying cattle damage for the BLM. It was the middle or summer and it was very hot. That river felt great!

Looks like a great area. If you had not said it was Succor Creek I would have sworn it was Jarbidge NV. Same basalt column formations and desert river. I'll have to get up there sometime.
