Hi, Does anyone have any recommendations for the Tahoe National Forest? Maybe some lakes we could camp next to and get away from people? Haven't ever been there but from maps we've looked at, we were thinking Glacier Lake hike and the surrounding areas...Any recommendations/options greatly appreciated. We are coming from the south and kinda looking for something with a lot of trees and water...maybe some lazy trout fishing... Thanks in advance- :D

verynice,

I'm not sure "Tahoe National Forest" and "get away from people" are possible. Pretty area but gets a lot of use from Sacramento and Bay Area residents. Certainly by hiking to a lake like Glacier you will lose most of the people. But nearby campgrounds like Carr and Feely lakes will be full on weekends, and busy during the week. There are some locations to boondock, but any of those near water also get occupied quickly. A little bit of a rough drive, but we have stayed at Sawmill Lake. Sagehen campground is near a creek and usually fairly quiet, though I think fishing is restricted there.

First week of June, hoping to evade the crowds before school gets out. Usually we go after the Mammoth "favorites" the first days that they open and have been lucky to get whole camps to ourselves like Reds Meadow...Just trying to mix it up this year for our late spring trip. Thanks a lot for the info gentlemen.
