Hi gang, I would have posted this in my thread about my ATC fridge and solar upgrade but the traffic there has been rather quiet the past week.
On good marks of recommendations of people on this site, I ordered an Acu-rite wireless thermometer unit from Amazon and got it today:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0009Y7RPS/ref=aw_cr_d_home-garden

Right after I ordered it I started reading the reviews and boy o boy, they were not good, mostly crappy battery life related. So I got my unit today and the remote component is 100% DOA, no good so it is going back pronto.

Any suggestions for a decent unit that is not the size of a paperback book? Even wired would be fine as I really only need to duck my head into the camper to quickly see whats going on while enroute to destinations..

And obviously, don't waste your time with the Acurite, those reviews are not bogus, the unit is...

I have seen good reviews of this one: Engel wireless thermometer (http://www.sierraexpeditions.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=34).

I don't have it (well I don't have the camper yet either).

I have this one and am happy with it:
Honeywell TM005X
Lots of positive reviews on the Amazon page; I ordered mine from Ambient Weather -- a great source for all things "weather".
It is a lot more expensive than other seemingly-similar choices, but maybe it's worth it -- it is to me.

As I'm sure you know (but I'll mention it anyway), in cold temperatures lithium batteries work much better-- last much longer -- than any others.

We have been using wireless for a while to keep up on what is happening in the fridge. Our unit is La Crosse.
Recommend you place sender in a zip lock bag or even a vacubag. condensation in the fridge can kill the battery and even the entire unit,
