truck/camper combo advice/opinions.

Ok I'll chime in, 2015 Tacoma 4cyl 5spd 4x4 on general grabber at2's average from the last 18 tanks is 20.3 mpg. Am I slow? yes, do I eventually get where I'm going? yes.
 
I'm 6' 4" and the roominess of the cab on the '88 F-250 HD 4x4 with the center console and the folding backseat with an 8' bed on the truck comes in at 155" wheelbase....about 21' or so. Not for driving/parking in San Francisco or even the Safeway parking lot. I got rid of the old Lance I had on the Ford but with a 460 gasser in it I think it gave me about 9-10 MPG with the Lance on it or not. I don't drive it a ton of miles so I rated COMFORT over gas mileage a long time ago.

My daily driver gets about 21 in town and around 27+ on the freeway so I figure what I am saving on the car somewhat subsidizes the much more comfortable gas-hog truck.

Unless you plan on driving the camper/truck over 10,000 miles per year and an additional 15,000 miles for daily use....I too would suggest you get an economical gas-saver for your daily driver. If you check out enough cars you will find which ones are good for us tall guys and which are not.

You can keep your big rig and have a big camper suited for a big guy that way and still save on gas for daily use.
 
Keep the Dodge and get a popup with your height requirements.
My Northstar has 6'7" headroom and I'm 6'4" so it works for me.
I couldn't even get into the cab of a Colorado without bashing my head. Nice truck but I'm too big and inflexible anymore.
I'm spoiled by my cab room. I have to scoot the seat forward in order to depress the clutch fully.
 
Haven't driven the new colorado/canyon but I can't imagine it would be comfortable at 6'9. Although I don't see how the Ram is either, I'm 6'4 and have smashed the button on the top of my hat against the roof of my 17 Ram 2500 on big bumps (btw, ripping hat buttons off with pliers is the best 30 second you can spend). Must be my driving position.

I vote keep the big rig and get a beater. I love keeping my megacab in the shop until the weekend, it's like a reward for me to park my other DD truck and drive the new one, with or without the camper.
 
My brother-lnlaw has a colorado, I'm only 5'11. I think you might get stuck in the cab. Nice truck though. Mitch
 
To the op, what is more important in the long run, mpgs, or comfort?
You won't be taking any $ with you for the big sleep. But you can convince yourself to get a nice new truck and camper. it's only $.
