I filled up both tanks on the '88 F-250 4x4, 460 cu in, C6 trans seen below and went to weight it today.
I figure about 200# for the shell on it.

They are a CA compliant weigh station for DMV.
Here is the VIN tag weights:
GAVW 8800
Front 3920
Rear 6084

The scales weighed it in at:
BOTH 6400
Front 3520
Rear 2860

So....the max load is the difference between 8800 and 6400...or 2400 lbs. As long as I don't exceed the capacity for either axle.
I have 400 lbs of headroom on the front axle which more than covers the Mrs. and a bunch of "stuff" in the rumble seat area. I also have 3224 lbs of headroom on the rear axle which should more than accommodate the Alaskan 8 ft CO at the 1400 lbs. in their literature, water, propane, food, gear, etc. that will go into it.

I plan on going back to weigh the truck with the camper in it to see if the 1400 figure is correct.

This may assist other Alaskan guys 'n gals out there as well as satisfy my own curiosity so I can sleep at night worry-free!

wow, the ol' girl has a great payload capacity. It always amazing me that trucks keep getting bigger, and able to carry less. The alum body Ford's being the exception, I think,
