Thanks for the welcoming. I have narrowed my camper down to a 1996 Ranger II.
This weekend I will be pulling linoleum, washing all fabric, possibly buying new (sponge material) in all fabric, smells like 10 years of dust. Maybe I can just soak it in a bathtub. Going to try and dye all curtains and inside should be breathable.
Trying out heater for first time today and I thought the fan kicked on for one second and then nothing. All wires connected and fuse is okay. After searching on this site I will take card or board in to get checked, or possibly a bad thermostat? Also when gas was turned a heavy gas smell outside,so maybe not enough gas pressure?I was told from seller, that he was told, it needed a new gas line. I will be buying a new gas line and regulator from propane tank to entrance to four wheeler.
Okay I will be getting pics up this weekend!

Welcome James. When you get new gas lines will you get the newer flex kind? I think all the newer campers have done away with the old copper tubing.Enjoy the fun of rebuilding and camping.

Actually, I am just replacing the gas regulator and the 2 foot of rubber hose that rests inside the propane tank compartment. That is where I smelled the gas, inside I did not have that smell. When following inside lines, all looks shiny and well, no kinks and no scratches where others might have made adjustments.

On a sad note, my local RV place wants $59.00 to run a diagnostic on heater ! I will try to see what I can do myself this weekend. Which will consist of asking questions, reading and trying all answers.

Welcome James,

I live in Carson City and if you need some help "PM" me and I can set you up with my phone numbers.

For the heater start with knowns...fill the propane tank. Charge the battery. Check fuses with a ohm\volt meter(don't just look at them). pull the back cover off and check the on\off rocker switch, and reset button. Make sure the thermostat is working, you can always take the two wires and touch them together to make the furnace turn on.

Good luck

The next thing to check on the heater is the sail switch, they fail often and are very easy to test once the unit is out of the camper. Set up a bench test with spare propane connection and 12v battery or jumper cables, wire around the switch after connecting the thermostat wires. It is important to connect the stat wires first and than the sail switch jumper as this is the sequence the circuit board wants. If it fires than the switch is bad and can be replaced for under $20. Beyond the sail switch the diagnostic becomes a little trickier, could be the limit switch, the gas valve, or something on the board itself. Good luck.
