Have a 2000 Tacoma with a small (Eagle) Four Wheel pop up camper on it. Very limited storage space inside so willing to remove truck bed & fenders, and replace with small flatbed with side boxes, preferably fiberglass or aluminum to keep light. No can find!!☹️ Ideas anyone??

Maybe a "service body" would work for you? Knapheide or one of those companies that specialize in building a service body for pickups would have one for the 2000 Tacoma or, maybe they can build you one?

I have pondered what you're talking about doing. The way that I see it is build a frame that *just* fits the footprint of the camper which is bolted to the truck using the original bed mounting points. Place the camper on the truck, and fill in with various tool boxes.

A couple links to get you started:

In full size utility beds what I've found is that it is a rare utility bed that has short enough bedsides to not need an under-camper spacer and some would have to be quite tall.

I have a 1993 Dodge W250 Club Cab Diesel with 8 foot bed. I recently found a retired body man with custom experience who has agreed to modify my bed sides to fold down and have built in storage (boxed in to the fender well leaving about 1 1/2" clearance on each side for the camper to slide in.

He is going to start work a the end of this month.

Once he is done I will post details and pictures.

For reference on similar approaches search on "hide-n-side" truck bed and "Royal Sport Body" (neither are being made)
