This video is in 4K UHD. I recommend you watch it full-screen. [Note: the Safari browser will only play video in HD, so if you have a 4K screen I recommend Firefox or another browser.]

The Dolores River originates high in the San Juan Mountains. It flows south until it reaches the town of Dolores, Colorado. There it pauses for a while in McPhee Reservoir. It then turns northerly until it ultimately joins the Colorado River above Arches National Park.

Dolores Canyon is considered that stretch of the Dolores River downstream of the reservoir. Initially the canyon is wide and tame. But as you go farther the walls close in. The section featured in this video is accessed via county roads east of the town of Dove Creek. When there is enough flow, this stretch is popular with rafters.

The first two "scenes" were photographed from the Dolores Canyon Overlook on the rim. The rest were from the canyon floor.

The gravel road from the top continues past a day-use, river access to a secluded BLM campground. Downstream from there a high-clearance vehicle is recommended. There are a number of sites for dispersed camping along the river road.

Video was taken using a DJI Mavic 2 Pro on June 3 and 4, 2019.

Another great video Bill, thanks for sharing. I need to get my drone out and try my luck more. I have a Yuneek typhoon Q500, and learned after the fact it only can be flown below 7500 feet elevation. So it won’t work too high up in the mountains. Bummer!

anyhow, thanks for sharing, I enjoy these.

Thanks, Frank and Elken for commenting.

Poky, have you tried to use your drone at higher altitudes? It may work fine, or at least well enough - just keep an eye on motor temperatures. Just checked my flight records; my max takeoff altitude is 11,148'!

Vic, glad you were able to view with 4K. Yes, it does allow the beauty to shine.

Just saw an online add for a Drone X at $99 reg price $199.
Seems to come with high user ratings.
Frank, before you spend any money you should pause to think what your objective is for the drone. If just to fly around and have fun, then most any will do. $200 is pretty cheap. Generally, the more you pay the easier they are to fly as they have GPS, inertial guidance, etc. A good low cost drone would be the new Mavic Mini - easy to fly and photos/video acceptable for websites & and is light enough you don't have to worry about licensing - basic cost $400. A much better drone just released is the Mavic Air 2 - easy to fly and great photos/video - basic cost $800. But you will really want extra batteries and a few accessories that will add 100 to the mini; 200 to the Air 2. There are a lot of great YouTube channels I can point you to if you want to message me.
