I while back Clikrf8 posted about how often people come up and ask her about her camper. It is something all of us ATC and FWC owners have experienced. But I imagine it happens more often with an XP. So Marc and XP001, what is it like when you are traveling in your rig? Can you stop for gas or supplies without getting questioned about the camper? Do you come out of the store and find people checking it out? Help this wannabe live vicariously through your stories. :)

Hi Ted
Yes on all accounts, however most of my encounters are usually when I'm fueling up or coming out of the grocery store. I have only been in a campground twice, but on both occasions ended up sharing a few cold ones and made new friends. Everyone that I have shown the XP to have been very complimentary and excited about the build quality and design features. Thus far, the XP has exceeded all my expectaions so much, that XP Marc and I are working on a new project that will incorporate most ot the XP's features as well as some new changes. I have already purchased the new steed that will carry the up and coming project, ( Low Mileage 2006 Dodge 3500 Reg cab diesle 4x4 with the G56 manual 6 speed)I guess you could say I,m a believer in XP. :)

I was wondering what the next project was going to be. With you two involved I would imagine that the sky in the limit....can't wait to see what you have dreamed up.

Hey Magellan,

Yep, a lot of attention. We had just started out one morning when we drove by this truck and the driver was pointing vigorously at us and I thought Oh my goodness (not my exact words) what did I forget to do and pulled over to check the camper out and after a quick look around I realized that I didn’t forget anything and the guy was just pointing out the XP to his buddy!

We get guys driving by that honk, smile and wave which is pretty cool. One time in Cathedral Valley at the Jailhouse Rock trail head we were eating lunch at the dinette, the big window at the back makes you feel like you are in a tree house, and this F250 pulled up a little way behind us and I watched this couple get out and just stared them down when the girl smiled and waved and I suddenly realized that they could see me. I thought I was invisible in my tree house! We had a nice chat and they did the 50 cent tour with much wowing and drooling.

Sometimes when we are in hurry, we just pretend we don’t see them walking towards us and hurry off. Mean I guess, but honestly sometimes it gets old.

I guess we haven’t made many friends like Marc has, but then again we don’t carry a big shotgun like he does :)

Thanks for the replies.

Marc, I'm glad to hear about your plans for a new XP camper. I was surprised when I saw you were selling and wondered if there was something about it that you didn't like. The fact that you are working with Marc on a new XP project tells me these campers are as good as they seem to be.

XP001, funny stories about the people just watching you and sometimes pretending not to see them. I can imagine it gets old quickly. I have read similar complaints by people with GXV's, Earthroamers, and the like. Still, I'd be willing to put up with that to have an XP.

Sigh. Someday.
