Why I Like History - How a Mountain Got Its Name

There's a small mountain, Mt. Dan, in the White Mountains to the south of Silver Canyon (37.39153,-118.25428). The man it was named for, a long time resident of Owens Valley, recently passed away. His obituary is here -

He lived a lot of history. I have deep respect for those old USGS survey crews. It wasn't just the climb -- it was all the gear they had to haul!
