Knock on wood, but we have had no issues with our 2019 Hawk furnace. Have camped at over 8,000 feet several times at over 9,000 at least once.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, Frank. We had not a breath of wind at Angel Lake. It stayed quite warm all night. We really loved the spot north of Monument Valley. It rained torrentially on us one afternoon, and just heavily a couple more times over the next couple of days. Very wet, but...

Occidental -- thanks so much. We were surprised how warm it was at the lake. We were also surprised at the 4 pm to 6 pm heavy influx of Burners looking for an overnight stop, I suppose.

Steve, great quote. It seems to me nothing puts a person into a realistic appreciation of their significance like walking among 3,000 year old trees and lichen growing on 100,000 year old landforms carved into 30 million year old mountains composed of rocks more than a billion years old.

Thanks Foy. I think the metamorphic core complexes of the Rubies and the Snake ranges, the Cambrian to Triassic sediments of western Utah and the laccoliths of the Henrys would have warmed your geologic heart!

In September we went to as many places over 8,000 feet as we could fit in while traveling though eastern Nevada into the western desert of Utah and on to southeast Utah. The high points, often literally, were Angel Lake, Wheeler Peak campground, the House Range and the Henry mountains of Utah...

We do the same. Nearly all our cooking is outside on the reserve 10 lb tank. Just the furnace with the camper tank.

The fairly reliable and sometimes absolutely insane weather service. "You can count on us to give you the best forecast, except when we don't!"

We sure are glad we did our 'all around death valley' excursion last spring. It may be years before we can get into places we easily visited then. Glad to hear the dust bowl between Hunter Mountain and Teakettle is better now. A small silver lining in a chaotic, wild place!

Common decency is at times too uncommon. We avoid this by avoiding people if possible and if not we make a point to fully occupy our site as long as we want it. Has worked so far. No issues with difficult people on the trip we just returned from.

We will swing by and take a gander at the oldest rocks in Nevada. Then proceed on to look at some world class lagerstatten in Western Utah. Move on to check out an ancient Fremont village site. Then proceed to do a hike at over 11,000 feet. If roads have not been washed out then we will proceed...

The morale of the story is: Don't lose your head over a ... well you know!
