RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2012 FWC Hawk for sale (CO) SOLD

Sioux and I bought this Hawk brand new in May of 2012. It has been a superb unit and we have loved it. (So much so we have the same model in a flat bed configuration on order!) This camper has never been smoked in, we have no pets and it has mostly been stored in our garage over its 3 year life...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Any ATC owners in New Mexico or Colorado?

Hi Brent, I don't see many ATC units. (We live in Durango, CO) However, Sioux and I have a 2012 Hawk on a Ram 2500 short bed. You will be very happy with the Ram/Hawk combo. BTW, our Hawk will be "seriously for sale" starting next Friday when we finish up our last trip in it through Northern...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Pristine 2012 Hawk/ SW Colorado- 17,500.00

Thanks, Bill. We are really ambivalent on letting this Hawk go. It has been truly bomb proof and super comfortable for a couple. Plus at least in this isolated part of the woods getting an aluminum flat bed fabricated and installed has proven to be a frustrating experience! :) Steve PS We've...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Pristine 2012 Hawk/ SW Colorado- 17,500.00

We are (reluctantly) putting up our "better-than-new" Hawk for sale to a good home. :) We'll be doing one "farewell trip" starting August 15th and the camper will be available August 29th. Since I'm a real dummy on posting photos HERE is our local Craigslist ad with the details. (Since Durango...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West The Smooth Sided Fiberglass FWC Thread

X2 on the replacement option. Plus aluminum resists abrasion and scratches better. We have the aluminum siding on our current Hawk (which we are going to sell) and on the new Flatbed Hawk we have ordered. Sometimes the old way is still the best way. My 2 cents...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bedliner question

FWC doesn't like separate bed liners. We went with a heavy cargo mat (about 1/4" thick) and it seems to have performed well. Steve

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Agonizing over battery options for our on-order Hawk Flatbed- HELP!

You got that right, Paul. Just looking for the best start possible. Any other opinions/insights out there on the 6 volt versus 12 volt debate? :) Steve PS I can't argue with Longhorn's KISS comment either!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Agonizing over battery options for our on-order Hawk Flatbed- HELP!

Good questions. And some great ideas from the others. So I've already been led to the conclusion that I should not be on the cutting edge with lithium batteries. (duh!) So help me out with one simple question: Option 1. Go with the FWC standard two Exide 75 amp 12 v batteries or go with...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West mounting my Mag flashlight in Hawk

Given 1) the rough roads we all drive on and 2) the thin walls FWC uses and 3) the weight of a Mag Light I wouldn't mount it with an anchor only. I'm just sayin...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West mounting my Mag flashlight in Hawk

I've added numerous mounting brackets to my Hawk. You are safest just removing the existing screws and reusing them or a slightly longer one. I believe FWC uses 1" x 1" aluminum tubing so that is your margin of error. Denny tells me FWC has hired a CAD person who is developing drawings of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Agonizing over battery options for our on-order Hawk Flatbed- HELP!

So Sioux and I went through the optioning process for our new Hawk. Denny Saunders up in Jackson was very patient but I bogged down on batteries. (I am far from an electrician and get overwhelmed easily.) Finally we jointly agreed to "kick the can down the road" by ordering the two battery set...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hello, Ultra Breeze & Other Ventilation Questions..

A well thought out order. Much of your thinking parallels what Sioux and I ordered for our Flatbed Hawk. However, we "diverge" on the outside shower versus inside shower. Even with our shower tent INVARIABLY a "cool breeze" (from Siberia) comes up just as Sioux scampers inside the tent. We...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Hawk Owner - Battery Question

I totally agree that the best way is to totally isolate camper electrical from your starting battery. But while you are testing you might want to consider this for emergency use. One just arrived at my house yesterday. Can't wait for a dead battery now! :) Steve PS We camp alone and I want a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Service Manager Position Available @ FWC in Woodland, CA

Stan, I have ALL of your qualifications! And you know how much I love to work on my FWC! So count me in... But uhhhhh, Stan... I wouldn't have to actually come to work every single day, would I? As in "punching a clock"? And this position wouldn't interfere with my "aggressive camping...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hello, Ultra Breeze & Other Ventilation Questions..

Ignore your first instinct. Get the stuff you mention above. We were exactly the same. But we have all these options in our 2012 Hawk and are thankful. For example, on our recent 3 week, 4300 mile odyssey I was planning to stay in a B & B every few days to give Sioux a "break". But honestly, we...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West truck backseat removal - big job

I just removed the 2/3 rear seat on my 2012 Ram 2500 Crew Cab 2 days ago. Using Advmoto18's excellent heat gun idea made it a tolerable task. I left the shoulder harnesses in place. I planned to build a slotted plywood rack to keep the roll-up lawn chairs/table and Sioux's tripod for her...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Drawer and Cabinet latches

I LOVE FWC but they make the world's worst drawers. :) I just converted some of my Hawk cabinet spaces into full extension drawer trays. (One of these days I need to learn how to post photos.) I re-used the existing FWC catches in the most visible locations and went with simple black draw-bolts...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper Stove

Go with the stove. In ordering my new Hawk I was surprised at how little credit FWC offers for deleting various standard options. We carry a Coleman 2 burner stove/grill combo for grilling/ cooking outside. But it is very convenient to cook inside where all your utensils/ spices/ sink and frig are.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Jemez Springs, NM?

Thanks, Stew. Sioux and I took 126 from La Cueva over to Cuba just a couple of weeks ago. We're looking forward to spending a few days this time. What is the camping like on FR 376 down near Deer Creek Landing and the Gilman Tunnels?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Front the sliding window

I plan to have a friend who does windshield replacement for a living remove my entire back window. RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Jemez Springs, NM?

So in contrast to our recent 21 day, 4300 mile western road trip (Whew!) Anyone have any remote boondocking camp sites to recommend? How about...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Towing Fuel Milege with V6 Tacoma and camper

Very nice, Jim. I'm just rigging up a tow bar and braking system for our Rubicon. How much did towing bring down your mileage and how much does your "dinghy" weigh? (Sorry, but that is what the RV people call a vehicle that is towed behind their coach.) :)
