RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Sightings thread

I forgot to mention this earlier that we saw a caravan of 3 or more FWC types heading east in Long Canyon on Burr Trail Road on Monday, October 29 in mid or late afternoon. We were the F250 with Hallmark heading back toward Boulder. We honked and waved. Also saw a FWC camped at Goblin Valley...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Sonoran-Mojave-Deserts Trip

That is what we did on our return trip home from Southern Utah. We came up 95 then 50 through Femley then a very roundabout way via 447 along Pyramid :Lake to CA299. We avoided Reno. They can have the glitter and gambling; I like the desert natural.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Sonoran-Mojave-Deserts Trip

MarkBC and generubin: you are my kind of people, probably most folks on here would agree with you. We avoid LV at all costs when we are in the area. We have had to skirt N LV, that vast wasteland of cookie cutter/strip mall/desert architecture sameness nonsense. We are heading down to Death...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West East Side / Death Valley

Thanks for sharing. Wonderful pictures, well-exposed for snow. Looks like we will be hitting some hot springs on our way to Death Valley in March. How far is it from where you parked? Can you camp nearby? Looks like you were there in the evening.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Quick Trip Down the East Side

The Alabama Hills are special. And, the Sierra Nevada are beautiful with their mantle of snow. The contrast with the warm boulders and the cold snowy peaks is very photogenic. I like the snow (living near Mt. Baker in Washington state which had over 1000" of snow in one year-world record) but...

I enjoyed your TR. Lots of snow and lots of privacy. Looking forward to the next installment. It's a good thing you are familiar with snowy driving conditions. I am glad you were able to make it home safely. And this time of year is about family.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Alaska for our 25th

Wow, I didn't know Alaska had such wonderful fall color. Was it that colorful in Southeast or too early compared to Anchorage area? Thanks for photos and TR to remind me what a beautiful place Alaska is. I spent 2 seasons crewing on a gilnetter in Southeast based out of Ketchikan, Juneau and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Quick Trip Down the East Side

Cold but beautiful. Did you try the hot springs? Glad your camper kept you warm. We were there i September 2009: much warmer. We are thinking of heading down that way in March or April on the way to Death Valley. What about snow on 395 then? We have a 4x4 F250 so would be okay in the snow. Your...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Be careful out there....

I follow them on Wordpress and when I read their story, I just couldn't believe the mob mentality they encountered. The only trouble they had until this was a surly border guard who wanted money and his watch if I remember correctly. Just a different mentality where they ended up. Thanks for...

Wonderful illustrations and documenting. I can really get the feel for the places you visited. I spent a few days in Amsterdam when I spent a year in Italy studying art. Looks like pen/ink/watercolor (I have a 13" Mac) ? I should really do this on our trips. I always bring along an illustration...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A New World Opened Up

I turn 65 next month: all set up for Medicare. I am relatively healthy and only take one medication for my low thyroid. What ticks me off is that I have to have prescription coverage or I will be penalized. I stay young by getting outside as much as I can, eating fruit/veggies from our garden...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Palomino Bronco Reviews

I would listen to Stan and others who advise against a heavier camper. If you are in So Cal, there are FWC/ATC on CL not infrequently. When we were looking for a used FWC/ATC, most were around the Sacramento area and points surrounding. They hold resale well and are built to take the backroads...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Year-End/New-Year Trip to Far-Eastern Nevada

Hi! I am looking to add some hiking to a trip to Vegas. I am looking at the last week of April/first week of May. Thinking Great Basin and Zion. Do I need to worry about it beginning so early in the season? Will most of the trails be open? I will be coming from Michigan. While I have...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West March trip?

If you end up in northern or central CA we can probably make a three day weekend of it to join up. We camp year round even in colder weather areas so temps aren't our restriction, just getting the time off. Spring on the coast is usually nice. DV in march should be good. Lots of neat places to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West March trip?

Happy Thanksgiving all. Waiting for turkey to cook so I thought I would toss this out. Do any of you meet up for trips in February or March? I have trips planned for April, May, June, September and October. Death Valley? California somewhere? Nevada? I am unsure about weather there. It can snow...

Actually, 299 from Redding to where it meets 101 is worse. I liked 299 from NV/CA border to Redding. It was scenic and we stayed at a very photogenic campground (BLM Pit River) which was the only one open in early November. Fall color and small twin waterfalls and we had it all to ourselves. $4...

#1: Dawdle, It's Wander the West not Woosh the West. #2: If you are forced to take I5 South do so only to McCloud Calif then start the Dawdle on Hwy 89 East though in April it may be snowy still. #3: The John Day Fossil Beds are pretty neat. After reading about what the environment there was...

Brakes. Really nice to have. Good choice getting a 3/4 ton. Gene, I think it was you who first brought my attention to the brake issue. Our F250 has nice big brakes. We had to test them a few times (old people on 101 on Oregon coast like to make left turns after waiting an eternity then...

I agree. I5 has no redeemable value except maybe the view of Mt. Shasta but that's it. We have travelled 12 & 24 a few times but never 95. I wanted to skirt the Northern Arizona area by using 89/89A and I-40 (an interstate but it passes by Petrified Forest NP and Little Painted Desert besides...

I am planning our April trip to Arizona/New Mexico. Both states have much to offer to the traveler/photographer that we will probably confine ourselves to the northern Arizona area plus a quick foray into Northwest New Mexico for a few days. We are planning to be gone about a month plus. Since...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West The Volcanic Tablelands - A Birthday Trip

Just read a posting of this by a FB photography buddy. I am just really sad about this. We had planned, based on your TR to stop by there on our return or enroute April trip to AZ/NM. I guess there are others to see but what a terrible act against a culture. We like to stop at galen Rowell's...
