It's roughly $150 a year for State Farm coverage on our 2011 Grandby shell here in So. AZ. When we first asked SF about it in 2011, the rep in the local office looked at our rig and said if the Grandby was mounted on the truck full-time we wouldn't need additional coverage beyond that of the...
No screen door for me either, as it'd be just another thing to constrict ingress/egress in my situation. That said, I have given thought to someday replacing the camper door's fixed window with a single-hung screened version which might add a bit of air flow through the rear side of the camper.
Dan,
You could check out my slideshow : http://desertjann.wix.com/four-wheel-camper , to see how my wife and I make a lower-tier sleeping arrangement work real well for ourselves, fwiw. The pics of our sleeping config are #5 through #8 in the first menu option (default) 'Customizing the...
Another opinion, fwiw. Zoom in to see details of my Brophy 3-stepper in pic below. Length of angle iron supports camper overhang to rear sides of truck bed; oversized hinges are attached to said angle iron; then Brophy's step hardware is attached to the hinges. Two Velcro straps secure the...
Does anyone know from experience (or other knowledge) whether there's any wiring in the immediate top rear corners of my Grandby? (i.e., near where the side red reflector and rear red trim lamp are, topmost center in the attached photo). My hope is to secure a pair of tiny attachment brackets...
bnf3 has described himself as a minimalist and desert-lover, and I resemble that remark so here's my 2 cents fwiw. My wife and I (desert rats, retired) went for the Grandby shell with a few simple add-ins: a single AGM camper battery with ibs-dbr linkup, a little SportCat heater, an old-school...
I suspect you're looking for something a little more advanced than the $20 solution I've got, but this (top mirror) is what I've used successfully for the past 3 years.
And mine is on the camper door itself, mounted along the very top inside edge (sans screen door). Works like a charm esp. for us tall folks, and esp. x2 in windy conditions. A simple, great, cheap upgrade regardless of how you might use it.
@ Craig: An exterior reflectix solution would likely be a hassle if you were moving around daily. Since our own winter trips in the low desert are generally 3- or 4-day-per-stop setups, the roof never gets lowered during a stop, so it's fine for that app. We've used it about 5 times so far...
A pair of Thermarest Dreamtime (new name: Dream NeoAir) linked side-by-side have worked fabulously for us as a queen-size adjustable air bed on top of the 'firm' FWC stock cushions. Individual fitted sheets bonus add-on for a bit more $$.
Anyone know where I can pick up an 'Isabella camping chair with headrest' here in the States? Isabella is a UK company but from all appearances this chair might be the most comfortable one anywhere around. Sometimes I like to rest my head when I'm sitting, and I like to sit upright (not at a...
I was mtn biking the Rincon foothills at the time and caught a similar quality view. This year's monsoon dawn and dusk scenes have been some of the best ever.
Welcome! As a fellow 6'3"er I can relate to the situation you're facing. Fortunately our '11 FWC Grandby has ~ 2+" of wiggle height such that I never bump my head against anything, even when wearing hiking boots and with an added 1/2" foam surface over the floor. Once in a while whatever ball...
A great discussion here. A number of you have mentioned using 60#, 80#, or as much as 100# struts to address your lifting needs. In my case I chose the 60# Suspa and have successfully used a pair of them (inside, front-only) for my Grandby's ~12-ft long roof. From my read of these posts It's...
Hi Mark,
Most of our trips this year have been in moderate weather, so the wrap didn't make those journeys, but the few times I've used it recently have definitely made a difference in comfort, in both hot and cold weather apps. As I've mentioned before, wind remains the primary nemesis...
