RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New FWC with gas strut - not enough

I would just add stronger gas struts. You probably have 40# struts. There have been other posts where someone mentioned the got the perfect strut setup that even a small 8 year old girl could raise the roof with minimal effort. It's going to be tough to get it perfect being your weight up top...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Out of State without license in a state that requires license (reciprocity?)

My province doesn't issue a front license plate. I got pulled over in a stop check before because of it. No big deal because it is a neighbouring province and they recognized it, but I'd probably have fun in a lot of states. No camper plate, no front plate.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West The old bag has had it!

I have a similar bag the Magnum 44 It makes winter camping in Canada a dream. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Magnum-deg-F-Sleeping-Bag/2263942.uts I think it might be too warm of a sleeping bag for a lot of people (unless you like sleeping warm). It's a -20F bag. Very roomy though...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ordering a Hawk 1-28-17 Do's Don'ts?

I agree with this way of thinking, but few of us have the liberty of saying cost is not a factor. When I shopped for my FWC I made a spreadsheet with all the options and the cost of each option. I then made 3 columns, Must have, nice to have and dream build. It was fun to play around with...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Efficiency of flat fixed solar vs adjustable portable?

That's a good rule of thumb that I never heard of. Thanks for sharing that tidbit.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ordering a Hawk 1-28-17 Do's Don'ts?

Given N2 is opting for a front dinette how does getting in an out of bed with a King option work? I'm assuming the King bed would extend beyond the seats of the front dinette, making it impossible to use them as a step up to the bed, and there would be high counters on both side of the isle.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West My Homemade Awning

Nice setup ETAV8R. I like how you can adjust the pitch and the height with the telescopic poles. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but... My GF loves to build big fires. We live in Canada and winter camp. My homemade tarp option has a few small holes burnt in it from embers. No...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ordering a Hawk 1-28-17 Do's Don'ts?

I learned a lot from your post. I didn't know there was a fan that would maintain a temperature setting. What a fantastic feature (no pun intended). Having had 3 seating configurations is something very few of us would have experience with. If you'd be so inclined can you share what you liked...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ordering a Hawk 1-28-17 Do's Don'ts?

I'm sure someone will answer your question about the limited depth. I remember a thread where almost all owner of the flush mounted options were happy that they made the choice of flush mounted. On the other side of the coin, I am very content with the standard offerings. I have no issue with...

I like school bus conversions as well. It's always interesting looking characters that I see driving them. I always smile when I see a stove pipe coming out of the top of one :)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ordering a Hawk 1-28-17 Do's Don'ts?

This is not an option that FWC normally offers. They did it for someone 6'8" tall and have refused to do it for others since then. Perhaps if they get enough requests they will make it an option, but my guess is they sigh every time someone asks about it.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ordering a Hawk 1-28-17 Do's Don'ts?

IMO, the thermal pack is handy at all times. I cuts down on sound and light. It aids in keeping the camper cooler or warmer. I also think it looks nice. I find a nice soft fabric nicer to look at than vinyl. I just recently read a post where one person said they removed theirs because they...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ordering a Hawk 1-28-17 Do's Don'ts?

Everybody has different needs. I bought a used Hawk that was pretty loaded up. What it has that I don't use or rarely use: -Rear wall steps I have never used them and I will never use them. If you are 7 years from retirement, you are likely better off putting that money towards a lightweight...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Duracell LED flashlight pack

I wouldn't hesitate purchasing them if you want a bunch of bright pocketable flashlights for cheap. I have Snap-on ones from Costco and I like them, but they get limited use. My GF uses one and the rest are spares. I'm obsessed with flashlights. I have a Nitecore MH20. Same kind of size but...

That is really cool. A full retro outdoor setup would be amazing. Looks like a great project for a business owner that wants attention. The big back door is awesome. Would make a great hot dog sales vehicle.

This is a great idea for a thread. I'll be heading to Jasper, AB this weekend and I should get some great photo opportunities. I almost always use my SLR when I plan on taking photos. I'll make sure I take a few with my old iPhone 4S as well. It will be interesting to see how they compare.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Suspension on F150

Welcome Spencer! Your suspension needs will vary based on the type of driving you do. I have Firestone airbags on a GMC 1/2 ton and I'm quite happy with them, but I don't do much if any off-road. They are more useful for levelling the load and bringing back the proper stance to the vehicle...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tiny Houses

They can be whatever you choose. They can be made for living on or off grid. They can be as upscale or basic as you choose. I personally think it is a bit stupid to build $80,000 tiny houses, but to each their own. Of course the ones you see on TV are more upscale, but I've seen a few...

I agree, well said. Perhaps it's a Millennial thing. http://thegbrief.com/articles/millennials-are-seeking-smaller-cozier-housing-618 What you give up in sq. ft. you gain in freedom. It gives you more time/money to do the things you really value in life.
